Songfacts®:

  • The second single from Koi No Yokan, "Tempest" finds Chino Moreno singing about an apocalyptic event.

    Turning in circles
    Been caught in a stasis,
    The ancient arrival
    Cut to the end

Moreno told Kerrang: "With Koi no Yokan, at the time, we were talking a lot about the end of the world. We would talk so deeply about it every day that we were like, 'We should make the record about this – we talk about it every day' but then it was one of those things where we confined ourselves. It ruined wanting to make the music about it. It stopped our freedom, so we ditched the idea. But the song 'Tempest' made it out of there, and that song was directly about it."
  • The song peaked at #3 on the US Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks, becoming Deftones' most successful single on that tally. Their previous best had been "Change (In The House of Flies)", which peaked at #9 in 2001.
