Songfacts®:

  • Django Django producer and drummer David Mclean was tired out from touring the band's Born Under Saturn album. He retreated to Scotland for a three-month period, leaving the band to record loose jams in London with Metronomy's Anna Prior behind the kit. All the while, the other group members sent audio files north for him to tinker with. Ultimately, Prior's drumming only ended up on one song - Marble Skies' title track. "I just wouldn't do a Krautrock beat like that instinctively, " Mclean told Uncut.
  • Singer and guitarist Vincent Neff told HMV.com how Django Django hooked up with Anna Prior:

"We toured a lot with Metronomy when they were doing The English Riviera and we're always bumping into them at festivals, so we know them really well. Anna lives right by where we're based and she's brilliant fun. We needed her because Dave wanted to go away and travel for a few months after we'd finished touring the second album and me, Jim (Dixon, bassist) and Tommy (Grace, keyboards) wanted to get on with new songs. We gave her a bell and got her in. It was good to have a drummer with a different take, it breathed some freshness into our writing."
  • Tommy Grace explained the Marble Skies to The Sun:

"It came from Chicago a few years ago. The sun was setting and there was this incredible cloud formation above the festival site, like a sheet of marble. It just seemed a nice title, and the visual suggested a mood for the title track which we took as a starting point."
