Songfacts®:

  • Here, Drake celebrates his come-up from his early days when his "car could get from A to B, but won't impress ya." Now that he's a megastar and successful businessman, the OVO boss can use his "deep pockets" to help his loved ones, so there's no need for them to end up in jail or the funeral home.
  • Drake originally recorded "Deep Pockets" for his 2018 album, Scorpion. He didn't use it, but the song later leaked under the title "Rollin" before ending up as the opening track on the rapper's 2020 compilation record Dark Lane Demo Tapes.
  • The lo-fi beat is courtesy of:

Patrick "Plain Pat" Reynolds, known for collaborations with Kanye West ("Waves"), Travis Scott and Kid Cudi ("The Scotts").

Drake's right-hand man and co-founder of the OVO Sound label, Noah "40" Shebib. 40's brooding, ambient soundscapes helped create Drake's sound.
