Songfacts®:

  • This sports-metaphored song finds Drake making clear he's still the #1 pick in the rap game. He shouts out a number of NFL and NBA players in the track, including his pal Johnny Manziel. The football star is close to Drizzy, even sporting an OVO tattoo on his wrist.
  • Drake also has a friendly jab at Chance The Rapper when he spits: "If I'd leave this s--t to chance, I'da picked a name like Chance the Rapper." Though he does add that he doesn't personally know the Hip-Hop recording artist.
  • After Drake told Rolling Stone, "It's like Hov can't drop bars these days without at least four art references," Jay Z responded on his freestyle remix of Soulja Boy's "We Made It."

"Sorry Mr. Drizzy for so much art talk
Silly me rappin' 'bout s--t that I really bought."

Listeners were unsure whether Jay actually said "Mr." or "Mrs." on the Mr. Drizzy line.

Drake struck back at the happily wed Hova on this song rapping:

"I'm focused on makin' records and gettin' bigger
    Just hits, no misses
    That's for the married folks."
  • Boi-1da's beat samples Lauryn Hill's 1998 hit single "Doo Wop (That Thing)." According to Billboard magazine, Kanye West had tried and failed to obtain the same sample in 2004.
