Songfacts®:

  • "Gently" is a Spanglish track featuring one of Puerto Rico's biggest stars, Bad Bunny. This is their second collaboration, following Drake jumping on Bunny's 2018 track, "Mia."
  • Drake kicks off the track, speaking in both English and Spanish about his love for all things Latin, especially Latin ladies. He's no stranger to the Spanish game - remember when he dropped bars in Español on Romeo Santos' "Odio" in 2014 and went full Spanish mode on "Mia"?
  • Though Drake is reasonably fluent in Spanish, back in 2016, he hinted in his song "Sneakin" at some difficulties in understanding the language.

Got my Spanish ting convinced that I know Spanish
Really when she get to talking I don't understand it
  • Bad Bunny jumps in after a reggaeton beat drop, spitting X-rated bars in Spanish. He flexes about his life of wealth, luxury, and most of all, sex.
  • The bridge features a clip of Dominican journalist, broadcaster, and politician Diulka Cristina Pérez. It's from a speech she gave on Zol FM, a Dominican radio program. The clip, translated into English, is as follows:

"You think I want you to invest my money in La 42, where people are dancing to dembow?"
  • As for the title "Gently," which doesn't appear in the lyrics, well, it's a head-scratcher. There's nothing gentle about the dirty lyrics or that thumping dembow riddim. It's a wild ride.
  • The producers are OZ, Nik D and Gordo

Swiss producer Ozan "Oz" Yildirim solely produced Drake's #1 hit "Toosie Slide" and co-produced Drizzy's collaborations with Future ("Life Is Good") and Travis Scott ("Sicko Mode").

German producer Nik D is signed to Oz. He has worked with Yildirim on a number of projects, including Travis Scott's hit song "Highest In The Room."

Guatemalan American DJ and record producer Gordo's other credits for Drake include "Sticky," "Massive" and "Rich Baby Daddy."
  • "Gently" became Drake's first entry on Billboard's Hot Latin Songs chart in four years when it debuted at #1 on the October 21, 2023, tally. The Toronto MC's previous song on the listing, "Mia," spent 16 weeks at the peak position in 2018-19.
