Songfacts®:

  • There's nothing Dustin Lynch likes more than getting out on the water on a hot sunny day. So when songwriters Hillary Lindsey, Justin Ebach and Matt Alderman pitched this summer party anthem to him, he was quickly hooked. "I've made so many memories over the years with great friends, being on a boat and just doing life together," Lynch said.

One of his boating pals, Chris Lane, sings a guest verse. "[I'm] pumped one of those buddies, Chris Lane, could join me for this song and bring even more of a party to it," he added.
  • Lynch and Lane detail their perfect summer boat day, which includes:

Music coming out of the speakers turned up loud
    Lots of sun
    Real suntans, not fake
A bottle of their favorite tequila
Stealing a kiss with a girl in between sips
And the fun time passing really slowly
  • Lynch recorded the song for his fifth studio album, Blue in the Sky. He took the album title from this song's opening line.

Blue in the sky, sky on the water

The line reminds him that every day we've all got a choice. "We can complain about the clouds in life," Lynch explained to Audacy's Katie Neal, "or notice the good and be a 'glass half full' type of person."
