Songfacts®:

  • Evie Tornquist was an American singer, born to Norwegian immigrants, who in the late 1970s was the most popular woman in Contemporary Christian music. In partnership with songwriter Ron Harris, Evie recorded a succession of successful albums, winning the Dove Award for Female Vocalist of the Year in both 1977 and 1978. Two years after marrying a minister named Pelle Karlsson, she bowed out in 1981 from her music career to pursue other areas of ministry.
  • Evie told CCM Magazine presents 100 Greatest Songs In Christian Music about this song: "Ron Harris is a masterful, skilled song-writer, and I love the fact that this one is always such fun to sing. When I first heard the song, I was very, very taken by the thought that even my simple little face - and all of our faces as believers in Jesus Christ - can be a direct manifestation of God's love to somebody. As someone looks upon our countenance, our eyes - being the windows of the soul - can exude a powerful presence that comes from the living Holy Spirit within us. And even as we laugh or weep or speak seriously, from our countenance comes a living testimony, if you will; a living story of what Jesus means to us."
