Songfacts®:

  • The uplifting title track of All The Feels, Fitz and the Tantrums' fourth studio album, was written with Morgan Dorr of Boys Like Girls and LA-based singer-songwriter Stephen Warbel. Frontman Michael Fitzpatrick sings about his need to get more out of life and feel all the feels. His co-singer, Noelle Scaggs, says the message is relatable in our technology-focused society that's lost its ability to connect on a human level.

"The overall message is about reconnecting with the human spirit. In this day and age, we are all wrapped up in technology and the woes of the world around us, so many of us struggle with our mental health and it can feel like we have all forgotten how to engage with one another," Scaggs told Create & Cultivate in 2020. "This album, in general, is about getting back to that place of authenticity and human connection. We wanted to tell stories that give some insight into our own lives and struggles and, hopefully, provide some sense of connection to the listener in that they find what is important for them to get through their day-to-day life."
  • Aside from bringing her powerhouse vocals to the band, Scaggs is a key songwriter in the group. In a 2023 Songfacts interview, she talked about her visual approach to the craft, which makes the Tantrums' tunes a great fit for media placements.

"When I really think about songs, it's whether or not I can visualize what the song will look like on film, or how it will be conveyed in a visual sense," she explained. "Is there a way of creating a human element to this song that you can see on screen? When I can do that, I know that a song is done."
  • Scaggs is also a solo artist who released her major-label debut, Great For You, in 2018.
  • According to Fitzpatrick, the band had 80 songs written for the album and narrowed it down to a still-impressive number of tracks. "It's a big record, like 17 songs long, but we wanted to do all the feels," he told Seattle Refined.
  • All The Feels is the band's first release since their 2016 self-titled album, which featured their big hit "HandClap."
