Songfacts®:

  • This is the third single from Contemporary Christian singer-songwriter Francesca Battistelli's debut album, My Paper Heart. It was the New York born musician's first song to enter the Billboard Hot 100.
  • Battistelli, who took the Artist of the Year trophy at the 2011 Dove Awards, has some experience dealing with expectations. She sings on this song, "The world is watching you," and as she told us in our 2011 interview, there are always people looking to see if she is behaving like a good Christian. Said Francesca: "It's something that I've learned sometimes the hard way. It's something that you have to consciously be aware of, and I think as someone in the limelight, it's more pronounced. But it's a good lesson for believers everywhere that we're not supposed to be one person in that church and another person ticked off behind the counter at the airport or in traffic. We're supposed to live life to honor and glorify God. And I'm no expert at it, but it's something that He's constantly reminding me of and teaching me, and I think it's something that you have to keep learning."
  • The song has been featured on a number of TV shows including the promo for ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and on NBC's Biggest Loser. Most notably it was played on the series finale of TLC's Jon & Kate Plus 8 as part of a dramatic montage recapping all five seasons of the show. The exposure on the latter show increased its download take by 440% in the week the song entered the Hot 100.
