Songfacts®:

  • Also known as the law of parsimony, Occam's razor (or Ockham's razor) is a scientific principle named after William of Ockham (c1287-1347). Put simply it means when you hear hoof beats think of horses before Zebras - unless your name is Johnny Clegg!

"Occam's Razor" is also the name of a very fine 9 minute 11 second guitar solo by Mr. Zappa. There are actually three guitarists on this track: Zappa, Warren Cuccurullo and Denny Walley.
  • "Occam's Razor" was recorded live in 1979 and appeared originally on the One Shot Deal album, released in 2008. Part of it was used in an earlier Zappa work, "Toad-O-Line," and on the even earlier track "Inca Roads." >>>
