Songfacts®:

  • This Franz-Ferdinand penned song features vocals from Marion Cotillard. The French actress won an Oscar in 2008 for her role as singer Edith Piaf in the biopic La Vie en Rose.
  • The song was recorded for a new advertising campaign, which was shot in New York in 2009, for high-end fashion house Dior. The commercial was for Lady Dior handbags and Cotillard, who is the face of the French label, played a working woman who transforms herself into a lounge singer at night.
  • The song title was presumably taken from the 1978 movie Eyes of Laura Mars, which starred Faye Dunaway as the fashion photographer title character.
