Songfacts®:

  • "Keep It Burnin" is a braggadocios cut featuring two verses each by Future and Kanye West. Future's rhymes concern his customary topics of drugs, riches, violence, and women. In his second verse, the hedonistic ATL rapper blames his debauched lifestyle on having been "raised by gangstas, prostitutes and pimps."
  • The song title comes from Future's closing line in his second verse.

Money like sage in my house, keep it burnin'

Sage is a small evergreen plant much cultivated as a kitchen and medicinal herb. The practice of burning sage, developed by indigenous peoples, is traditionally used to help clear negative energy.
  • During his verses, West talks about his Christian faith, brags about his wealth, and reflects on where he came from. A notable line finds him hinting at a run in the 2024 presidential elections while hoping his ex-wife, Kim Kardashian, supports him.

When I run for '24, I know my spouse better be with me

On July 4, 2020, West announced he would run in the 2020 presidential election. He appeared on the ballot in a dozen states and received 66,365 votes in total. Some saw it as a trial run for 2024, when he would put more time, effort and money into running for president.
  • ATL Jacob created the beat. The Atlanta producer worked on six songs in total on Future's seventh studio album, The WIZRD, including "Never Stop" and the Travis Scott collaboration "First Off."
  • An unfinished version of "Keep It Burnin" debuted on Kanye West's platform Stem Player on February 24, 2022, along with other tracks on the Donda 2 V2.22.22 version. West later removed the song from the Stem Player website and replaced it with "Eazy." Future then included the completed track on his I Never Liked You album.
