Songfacts®:

  • This is the title track of Ian Axel's debut album, This Is The New Year. New Jersey singer-songwriter told the story of the song in an interview with PopEater: "When I first started opening my mouth and singing, I would sing about my family. I don't know how to say 'I love you' to them and I wanted to be able to, so I started writing several songs for them. It's changed a lot, but I went home for Thanksgiving and being away from home for a while and coming home, you can see all the dysfunction. I'm ready to take the next step in talking to them. While writing 'Gone' I was thinking about what if something were to happen to me today or tomorrow and I never got to say the things that I've always wanted to say?"
