Songfacts®:

  • Known at the time as Young Jeezy, the Atlanta rapper released "Shake Life" as the first single from his fourth album, TM103. It finds him ready to have a good time.

Jeezy is ready to celebrate despite the difficult upbringing he had and more recently being counted out of the game by some. He spits:

Keep them bottles coming we gon' be here all night
Roll them Swishers up we about to take flight
Need a set of new dice, yeah about the shake life

The song was serviced to radio on August 1, 2011.
  • The song samples Toto's 1978 single "Georgy Porgy." MC Lyte previously used Toto's tune as the musical foundation of her 1991 hit single "Poor Georgie."
  • TM103 marks the third album in Young Jeezy's Thug Motivation series, after 2005's Let's Get It: Thug Motivation 101 and 2006's The Inspiration.
  • The song was left off the final track listing of Thug Motivation 103 after it only reached #46 on the Hot R&B/Hip Hop Songs chart.
