Songfacts®:

  • Over a vibrant dance-pop rhythm and a bouncy bassline, BlackPink's Jennie sings of her deep feelings and attachment to her romantic partner. She balances tender romantic sentiments with a bold, self-empowered attitude, culminating in the proclamation, "I love you and me."
  • YG Entertainment in-house producer Teddy Park and Danny Chung (BlackPink's "Lovesick Girls," "Pink Venom") wrote the lyrics. Park composed it with Vince (BlackPink's "Love To Hate Me," Lisa's "Money"), and 24 (Black Pink's "Ice Cream, Lisa's " Lalisa").

They penned the song in 2018 as a candidate for Jennie's solo debut. Ultimately, she kicked off her career away from BlackPink on November 12, 2018 with the single "Solo."
  • In the post-chorus, Jennie sings:

Look at you, now look at me
How you ever, ever gonna find someone like this?

The line is similar to one on BlackPink's 2020 single "How You Like That."

Look at you, now look at me
    How you like that

Teddy Park, Danny Chung and 24 also wrote "How You Like That" with R Tee.
  • As BlackPink geared up for the 2022 Born Pink World Tour, Jennie and Teddy Park sifted through a slew of song options for her solo setlist. After careful consideration, they landed on "You & Me." To bring her vision to life, Jennie collaborated with choreographers Eunchong and Jung.

"You & Me" got its live debut back on October 15, 2022, when Jennie performed it on the first night of BlackPink's Born Pink Tour at the KSPO Dome in Seoul. The performance featured a partnered ballet duet with Jennie and a male backup dancer, enhanced by subdued lighting and their silhouettes projected against a full moon backdrop. The song was a regular part of the setlist for the rest of the tour.
  • Following BlackPink's Born Pink tour's grand finale on September 17th, 2023, "You & Me" was released on October 6, 2023 as a single through YG Entertainment and Interscope Records. It was Jennie's third non-BlackPink single after "Solo" and her 2023 collaboration with The Weeknd for The Idol, "One Of The Girls."
  • BlackPink performed a remixed version at the 2023 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, where they were the headline act. This inspired the B-side to the new single, "You & Me (Coachella ver)," with additional writing credits by American singer-songwriter Bekuh Boom. Press materials describes it as "a rap-enhanced redux" of the Coachella performance of the track.
  • The "You & Me" dance performance music video takes inspiration from Jennie's concert performance of the song. Set against the backdrop of a full moon, Jennie and a crew of dancers perform choreography to the romantic song.
