Songfacts®:

  • While some of the tracks on Picking Up The Pieces were influenced by Jewel's 2014 divorce from Ty Murray, quite a few of the songs on the disc were written years previously. However, though some of the lyrical content was penned before she married Murray, Jewel still felt everything that she was going through when she sang it.

She said of this song, which she wrote in the late 1990s: "Doing it now and recording it now, I didn't get through it without sobbing on every single take. This song has more relevance now than it did when I wrote it."
