Songfacts®:

  • This was released as the second single from John Newman's debut album, Tribute. The record was written at a tough time. Newman told The Sun: "It is a breakup album. I broke up with someone I loved and the music started coming. I didn't talk about things a lot with my friends or with her, the person I went through a hard time with. I put it in the music and that's the only way I talk about it."
  • Newman's debut solo single, "Love Me Again," found him playing the role of the heartbreaker, but on this song it is his heart that is the one that's broken.
  • Newman penned the song with Emily Phillips, who is signed to Sony/ATV as a songwriter. The British songsmith co-wrote four tracks on Rizzle Kicks debut album Stereo Typical including their single "Traveller's Chant." She also co-wrote "Worldwide" with Big Time Rush for the American boy band's B.T.R. record.
  • When he was growing up, other boys would deliberately make a play for girls that Newman was interested in to upset him. as a consequence he found himself getting paranoid that girlfriends were seeing other guys behind his back: The singer told The Observer that this song is about, "a girl in Leeds who I still don't know if she did cheat on me."
