Songfacts®:

  • This is the opening track of Shadows, the second in a series of four 'Wonderland' solo EPs by Switchfoot frontman Jon Foreman. The singer explained the song's meaning to Artist Direct: "That one is about all of the things that we worship throughout the day and our time," he said. "I think that technology has improved our lives in so many respects-but the cell phone we are on, the computer we are on become pieces of worship and we spend our lives through them and they leave us less than where we were before we began. Can they kill me? Not necessarily, but do they leave me as kind of a ghost? I would say yes."
