Songfacts®:

  • After Kasabian frontman Tom Meighan was convicted of assaulting his girlfriend in 2020, guitarist and songwriter Serge Pizzorno kicked him out of the band. Pizzorno himself took over as the lead vocalist and "Scriptvre" is the second song released by Kasabian in their new era.
  • Scripture, or the scriptures, refer to writings of a sacred or religious nature, such as the Bible in Christianity. Pizzorno wrote this song inspired by the stories we tell ourselves. "We all make up this narrative of who we think we are," he told NME. "This is about ripping that up, going against all that and no longer going with your own madness. You need to go somewhere else and reset everything."
  • Pizzorno sees "Scriptvre" as the tune he'd walk onto the ring to for a heavyweight fight. He described it to the BBC as "a boxing walk-out song," like Eminem's "Lose Yourself" with its sense of "like it or not, you're here now and it's up to you."
  • Pizzorno recorded "Scriptvre" for The Alchemist's Euphoria. He wrote the album himself and co-produced it with Stormzy and Dave's producer Fraser T Smith at his home studio, the Sergery in Leicester.

This song has a huge cinematic sound, crunching guitars and a ferocious, in-your-face beat. "With attention spans and the world being what is, I was really interested in making these expansive and really interesting sonic tracks, but instead of being 15-minutes long, condensing that into four minutes," Pizzorno told Rolling Stone UK. "There's an expansive mental trip, but it's over pretty quickly."
  • The album title refers to the record's euphoric feel and the sweat and toil required to produce it. "When you're making anything, a tune or whatever, when you get that initial idea there's this unbelievable feeling that keeps you going," Pizzorno explained to Radio X. "That's the greedy bit. That happens maybe once a month. The rest of it is just hard, hard work, pleading with the Song Gods to give me something. And I think any songwriter or filmmaker or painter would know what I'm talking about."
  • The Alchemist's Euphoria debuted at #1 on the UK albums chart, Kasabian's sixth consecutive record to reach the summit. Only their self-titled debut failed to climb to the top spot.
