Songfacts®:

  • This is the title track of Kelly Clarkson's first Christmas album. The record has an overall lyrical theme of the color red, which apart from being a holiday color stands for an assortment of feelings. "There's just something about it that represents so many deep emotions," Clarkson told Billboard magazine. "Whether it's love or lust or envy or pain or beauty."
  • Clarkson penned this song with Ashley Arrison, Aben Eubanks, and Shane McAnally. She cited the 2003 movie Love Actually as an inspiration for the tune, particularly a Christmas scene in which Andrew Lincoln's character silently uses Bob Dylan-esque word cards to confess his unrequited love for the girl played by Keira Knightley.
  • Kelly Clarkson commissioned her "What Doesn't Kill You (Stronger)" collaborator Greg Kurstin to produce the entire album. She explained to OfficialCharts.com:

"For Wrapped In Red, I asked to work with Greg Kurstin. I mean, even though he's Jewish and doesn't know these songs, he understood me [laughs]! I just thought it'd be a great record to make with him, and it was, I love it. It'd be really interesting to see what we could come with this new team. I'm so up for anything these days, I'm just like, let's do it!"
