Songfacts®:

  • A track from the Dublin band Kodaline's first album, "Pray" finds lead singer Steve Garrigan asking, "Do you pray for me?"

Garrigan wrote the song with guitarist Mark Prendergast and drummer Vinny May. When we spoke with May in 2014, we asked him if this song reflected a spiritual side of the band. He replied: "We're all from Ireland and that's a Catholic place, but we're not really religious people. We don't go to church every day. That song is just a vehicle, kind of like an expression. Just saying that someone's going to pray for you, and asking if that is something you would do to try to help somebody: say a prayer for them. It's not because we're very spiritual people at all. We're Catholics, but it's got no bearing on our music."
