Songfacts®:

  • The phrase "Lights, Camera, Action" transports you instantly to the glitzy world of filmmaking. It's shorthand for that moment when everything is ready and the cameras start rolling. Here, Minogue takes that cinematic phrase, sprinkles it with a bit of Kylie magic, and invites us to bask in the glow of glamor, and grab life with both hands.
  • Speaking to NME, Kylie mused about the song's energy, comparing it to the hypnotic vibe of her 2023 hit, "Padam Padam."

"It's got that same kind of infectious call-to-action," she explained, referring to the chorus's repetition of "Lights, camera, action - that's it." She added with a grin, "I just thought it was cool."
  • Produced by Lewis Thompson (Becky Hill and David Guetta's "Remember," Joel Corry's "Head And Heart") and co-written by Kylie, Thompson, and Ina Wroldsen (who co-penned "Padam Padam"), the track pulses with electronic beats, heavy drops, and a dash of nightclub swagger.
  • "Lights Camera Action" was released as the lead single from Minogue's 17th album, Tension II, on September 27, 2024. Tension II is the sequel to Minogue's 2023 album Tension; Minogue explained to NME it is "kind of a hybrid," part deluxe edition, part new creation.

After finishing Tension in 2023, Minogue found herself with a surplus of songs - some that didn't make the first cut, others that arrived later, including collaborations with artists like Sia and Bebe Rexha. Before long, there were enough tracks to warrant a full-fledged sequel.
  • Directed by Sophie Muller, who's crafted several of Kylie's most memorable visuals, the video was shot in Budapest and sees Kylie in multiple iconic roles. She morphs from film star to photographer, with the video playing on the themes of filmmaking and the irresistible allure of the spotlight.
  • Kylie Minogue netted a landmark 10th #1 album in the UK when Tension II debuted at the summit. It joined Kylie (1988), Enjoy Yourself (1989), Greatest Hits (1992), Fever (2001), Aphrodite (2010), Golden (2018), Step Back In Time: The Definitive Collection (2019), Disco (2020) and Tension (2023) in Kylie's tally of chart-toppers.
