Songfacts®:

  • "Something In The Heavens" is about loss and the glimmer of hope that remains. Lewis Capaldi details his pain after the death of someone he loved while believing they will reunite in the afterlife.
  • Capaldi has long mined grief for material. "Someone You Loved" is about his grandmother's death, and "Before You Go" deals with the suicide of his aunt. Compared to those, "Something In The Heavens" is more like a universal open letter to anyone missing someone, anywhere. Capaldi told Amazon he likes to keep his lyrics "ambiguous enough that it could be about any relationship," so everyone gets to hang their own heartbreak on his piano chords.
  • Capaldi wrote "Something In The Heavens" with Connor and Riley McDonough, the duo who helped him craft his 2025 chart-topper "Survive." The McDonough brothers also produced, programmed, plucked, strummed, and harmonized, handling everything from bass to strings to background vocals.
  • Capaldi gave "Something In The Heavens" its live baptism in Sheffield on September 6, 2025, when he opened his UK & Ireland tour. He released it as a single 12 days later.
  • The video, filmed at Abbey Road Studios by Huse Monfaradi, is deceptively simple: one Steadicam shot and Lewis Capaldi pouring his heart out at the microphone.
