  • During this dramatic dance-pop anthem, Loreen explores a troubled romantic relationship where her bond with her partner is the most significant aspect of her life. Despite facing obstacles, the Swedish pop star is determined to stay with her man, as losing him would be an irreparable loss. To express her unwavering commitment, Loreen uses the metaphor of a tattoo to convey that her lover is permanently ingrained in her being.
  • Loreen performed "Tattoo" in the fourth heat of Melodifestivalen on February 25, 2023. An environmental activist stormed the stage, briefly interrupting her rendition of the song. After the incident was resolved, Loreen restarted her performance and continued with the show. Despite the unexpected disruption, Loreen won the fourth heat of the competition, earning her a spot in the final round.

The song won Melodifestivalen, thus becoming the Swedish entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2023.
  • Melodifestivalen is an annual Swedish music competition that aims to determine the country's representative for the Eurovision Song Contest. Since its inception in 1959, Melodifestivalen has become one of Europe's most prominent and long-standing music competitions. In 2023, Loreen took part for the fourth time. She previously won the competition in 2012 with "Euphoria," which also secured her victory in the Eurovision Song Contest of the same year.
  • "Tattoo" is a collaborative effort between some of Melodifestivalen's most accomplished songwriters. A team of veterans and emerging talents created the track:

The writers of "Euphoria," Peter Boström, also known as Bassflow, and Thomas G:Son. Both have written many songs for Melodifestivalen performers.

Jimmy Jansson, who at Melodifestivalen 2020 set a record for most competing entries by a composer at one contest with six.

Jimmy "Joker" Thörnfeldt. He has worked with internationally renowned artists like Pitbull ("Rain Over Me"), Jennifer Lopez ("Invading My Mind") and Nicole Scherzinger ("Killer Love").

Swedish DJ, artist, singer and songwriter Cazzi Opeia. She competed in Melodifestivalen 2022 with the song "I Can't Get Enough" and composed the winning entry for the 2022 American Song Contest, "Wonderland."
  • Although Loreen is credited as a songwriter of "Tattoo," she was not involved in its creation from the outset. The song was already in its embryonic stages when it landed in her inbox. Recounting the moment she first heard the track, Loreen recalls it being around 10 p.m. when Thomas G:son and his team sent it to her. Even before listening to the song, Loreen sensed something special about it. When she hit play, the experience was akin to falling in love.
  • "Tattoo" was released on digital platforms on February 25, 2023. It debuted at #1 in Sweden, becoming Loreen's second Swedish chart-topper, following "Euphoria."
  • Loreen delivers a profound message of acceptance, urging listeners to embrace the hardships that life presents. In her poignant lyrics, she emphasizes the importance of enduring these challenges as a means to truly comprehend and value the world that surrounds us.

"It's a love song and I let everybody interpret whatever they want," she explained to NME, "but what I'm trying to say is that there is no day without night, and there is no love without the opposite either. It's all necessary."

"We tend to think that the grass is greener on the other side but if you want to experience this deep, authentic love, you have to be aware that the struggle needs to be there too," Loreen added. "We can't run off the moment we feel a little bit of pain."
  • "Tattoo" won the Eurovision Song Contest in 2023. Loreen became the second performer (after Johnny Logan) and the first female artist to win the competition twice.
  • "Tattoo" was the first Eurovision entry in 27 years to spend two consecutive weeks in the UK Official Singles Chart Top 5. The last song to achieve the feat was Gina G's "Ooh Aah... Just A Little Bit" in 1996, which spent nine consecutive weeks in the Top 5, including a week at the #1.
