Songfacts®:

  • This Dallas Davidson, Justin Ebach and Kyle Fishman-penned, R&B-tinged song finds a young couple enjoying a night of innocent romance.

Down to one hand in mine
    Down to one beautiful smile
I was done with the girl I want
    Straight falling in love

As the pair share some moonlit intimacy, the guy realizes he's hooked, and wants her to be his girl.

    Right there that night
    Down to one
I was saying, "Stay with me
    I'll be everything you need"
  • The songwriters set this mellow love song to a smooth four-on-the-floor groove. "My buddy Dallas Davidson, one of the writers on the song, is so good at melodies, and the melodies in this song really soar," Bryan told Apple Music. "The way the piano and the syncopated track starts at the beginning sets a really cosmic and ethereal mood for the whole track. We've all been quarantining, and you might have that one person you've been around a lot, so it's a song that makes you want to go out in the country, sit under some stars and just dream that the night will never end. The story of a couple being out under the stars never gets old."
  • Dallas Davidson is one of Luke Bryan's go-to writers, having co-penned several of his radio hits, including the similarly themed "I Don't Want This Night To End," "Country Girl (Shake It For Me)," and "That's My Kind of Night."
  • Bryan told Taste of Country Nights this is his wife Caroline's favorite track on the Born Here, Live Here, Die Here album. "She always wants me to put out fun songs," he said. "She's like, 'Nobody wants to hear a bunch of sad, depressing stuff. Put fun, fun, fun.' She's always the champion of fun and dancing."
  • Michael Monaco of FlyHigh Films directed the video, which shows Bryan playing the song accompanied by scenes of a young couple enjoying a summer romance. The clip is Monaco's 17th for Bryan since 2013. They include CMT Music Awards in the Male Video of The Year category for "Play It Again" and "One Margarita."
