Songfacts®:

  • This autobiographical song finds Lynyrd Skynyrd reminiscing about their long and successful career.

We played the garden in New York City
We rocked the house down in New Orleans
We think about the ones we lost along the way
As we're rolling down the road with Mr. Breeze

Southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd started out in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1964 and were still going strong in May 2018 when they began The Last of the Street Survivors Farewell Tour. This tune gets its name from their farewell tour (itself inspired by Skynyrd's 1977 Street Survivors album). The group released the song on April 24, 2020 in the wake of the postponement of a series of Street Survivor concert dates because of the coronavirus pandemic.
  • Lynyrd Skynyrd vocalist Johnny Van Zant wrote the song with guitarist Rickey Medlocke, songwriter Tom Hambridge (ZZ Top's "I Don't Wanna Lose, Lose, You," Taylor Hicks' "Nineteen") and the band's last remaining original member, guitarist Gary Rossington.
