  • M83 got their name from "Messier 83," a spiral galaxy. These types of galaxies contain discs of stars, gas, and dust spinning in a flat, circular motion. Spiral galaxies were first discussed by famous astronomer Edwin Hubble in 1936.
  • The video for M83's single "Midnight City" features telekinetic children who escape a boarding school and test their powers in an empty building. The clip was inspired by movies like Village of the Damned, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, E.T., and The Neverending Story.
  • On the M83 song "Raconte-MoiUne Histoire," producer Justin Meldel-Johnson's five year old daughter sings backup vocals. M83 singer Anthony Gonzalez says the little girl is a "born actress" and that in the studio she talked to him for "30 minutes non-stop."
  • M83's ambitious double-album Hurry Up, We're Dreaming was inspired by The Smashing Pumpkins' double disc Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. Lead singer Anthony Gonzalez says he, "waited weeks for the album to come out" and that when it did, he, "listened to it over and over, like it was a discovery."
  • American singer-songwriter Zola Jesus appears on a track on M83's album Hurry Up, We're Dreaming. Frontman Anthony Gonzalez describes the chanteuse as "very uplifting and funny" and says she has "a unique voice."
  • M83's album Hurry Up, We're Dreaming contains more vocals than any of the band's previous records. Frontman Anthony Gonzalez believes the shift comes from touring with bands like The Killers and Depeche Mode; bands with enigmatic frontmen who aren't afraid to belt out their tunes. Gonzalez describes himself as shy but says he's getting better at being more confident and being a frontman who can get out there and sing.
  • Anthony Gonzalez 's maternal grandfather, Laurent Robuschi, played professional soccer for Marseilles and Bordeaux, and was in the French squad for the 1966 World Cup.
