  • January 19, 1992 - September 7, 2018
  • Mac Miller was born Malcolm James McCormick in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His parents were photographer Karen Meyers, and architect Mark McCormick.
  • Mac Miller rapped for the first time during a weed-smoking session at the age of 14. He spat a freestyle while a beat was playing, and it turned out to be better than anyone expected. Before that, he'd wanted to be a singer.
  • He was a self-taught musician - Miller played the piano, guitar, drums, and bass. The rapper wrote and arranged all of the music on his 2012 EP, You, which features him crooning over lounging jazz instrumentals. The record was released under the moniker Larry Lovestein & The Velvet Revival.
  • Miller scored the #1 spot on the Billboard 200 with his debut album, Blue Slide Park. It was the first independently distributed debut longplayer to top the chart since Tha Dogg Pound's 1995 record, Dogg Food.
  • In early 2013, Miller launched REMember Music, his own record label imprint. The capitalized part of the name stemmed from the initials of a friend of the rapper that died, Reuben Eli Mitrani.
  • Miller dated singer Ariana Grande from August 2016 to May 2018 after they'd been friends for several years. The pair first became friendly with after the rapper tweeted her in October 2012. They started writing songs together and in December 2012 they released a cover of the classic Christmas tune "Baby It's Cold Outside." They collaborated on several further occasions, including Grande's 2013 debut single "The Way," the remix to the songstress' Dangerous Woman track "Into You" and Miller's 2016 song "My Favorite Part."
  • He struggled with substance abuse. Miller became addicted to a combination of promethazine and codeine, known as "lean," after reading bad reviews of Blue Slide Park. The rapper died of an apparent drug overdose in his San Fernando Valley home on September 7, 2018 at age 26.
