Songfacts®:

  • Here, Adam Levine sings of his gratitude for connecting deeply with somebody. He uses religious metaphors to describe how before he met his person he had "no faith" and was "searching for someone to save my soul." Having been "lost," now he's "found."
  • The words could apply either to a romantic relationship or a close friendship. Levine told Apple Music he worked hard at the lyrics and they took a while to get right. He called them "the most important contribution I think that I made to any record," adding, "Just sitting with them and really trying to make sure everybody understood what I was saying and not trying to shroud it too much in any metaphor."
  • Maroon 5 recorded the song for Jordi, which they titled in tribute to longtime manager Jordan Feldstein. A childhood friend of Levine's, he died from a heart attack in late 2017 aged 40. The tragedy hit the band hard, and the project finds them in a contemplative mood. Both on this song and "Memories," Levine expresses his appreciation for a close relationship with a loved one.
  • Levine penned the song with Jacob Kasher, Michael Pollack, Jonathan Bellion and The Monsters and the Strangerz production team. The same writers also penned Maroon 5's smash hit "Memories."
