Songfacts®:

  • This is the title track of Meek Mill's Wins & Losses album. When naming the record, Mill had in mind the time he served in jail in late 2014, as well as the 2013 murder of his protégé, Louisiana rapper Lil' Snupe. Speaking with Atlanta's Street 94.5, Meek explained:

"I just wanted to give people a real perspective on my life, what we call wins and what we call losses. I lost my case. We lost Lil' Snupe… Where we come from that's a loss. When we talking Ls and Ws, when you get an L it means you've got life in jail or something like that. It's critical. It's not what they're talking about. So I wanted to give my perspective on it, let people know what I've been through to even put me into this position right here that molded me into this man today."
  • The first voice heard on the song is that of Eric Thomas, the YouTube motivational speaker also known as ET The Hip-Hop Preacher.

You have to see it when nobody else sees it
You have to feel it when it's not tangible
You have to believe it when you cannot see it
You gotta be possessed with the dream

"One day I heard that, and it just uplifted me," Meek Mill told the Philadelphia Daily News. "It made me want to work harder and chase my dreams."
