• Meghan Trainor recorded "Mother" for the deluxe edition of her fifth major-label studio album, Takin' It Back. Trainor wrote the song with Sean Douglas, Justin Tranter, and its producer, Gian Stone. Douglas was also Trainor's co-writer on her smash hit "Made You Look."
• Trainor said in an Instagram post she made this song for all the dudes who try to tell her what kind of songs to write and talk down to her like she doesn't know anything. She added a kiss-blowing emoji in her caption before writing, "And that having a baby would end my career."

  Trainor starts the song with a sample from bruhthaniel's April 2022 TikTok video where he talked about Meghan becoming a mom and how she's now an icon for the LGBT community.

  "Mansplaining" is a term used to describe a situation where a man explains something to a woman condescendingly, assuming the woman doesn't know or understand the topic. "This song is my response to being in the industry for almost a decade now and still finding myself in situations where I am talked down to or made to feel like my opinion isn't valid," Trainor said of the female empowerment anthem. "It's for anyone who is in a situation where they feel like they are being mansplained to and want to take their power back."
• Epic Records released "Mother" as a single on March 27, 2023. Trainor announced the release of the song when she was 21 weeks pregnant.
• Gian Stone plays the electric guitar and bass, and Sean Douglas plays the keyboards. The only other musician is Tristian Hurd, who contributes trumpet. A trumpet player and teacher based in Los Angeles, Hurd played trumpet on three other Takin' It Back songs, including the title track.
• You'll hear a sample of The Chordettes 1954 song "Mr. Sandman," which gives the song a catchy vibe. Trainor's vocals with close harmonies and lines full of lyrics also give off that '50s vibe.
• In the Charm La'Donna-directed and choreographed music video, Kris Jenner shows up in a white gown. Dancers in suits surround her before Kris joins Meghan with both rocking velvet dresses with sparkling details.
