Songfacts®:

  • MKTO is a pop-rap duo comprising Malcolm Kelley, who portrayed the character Walt Lloyd on Lost, and Tony Oller, who starred opposite Demi Lovato on the sitcom As the Bell Rings. The pair first met in 2010 while filming the TeenNick television series Gigantic, in which they played best friends. Malcolm and Tony later formed together as a duo and came up with the name MKTO, which is a double entendre, representing both their combined initials and standing for 'Misfit Kids and Total Outcasts.' "We both relate to the standpoint of people saying you can't do something you don't want to do," Tony explained to MTV News "From the hazing to the bullying - all that stupid, young, immature mindset that we are all at - it was just something to relate to people."
  • MKTO signed to Columbia Records and released their debut single "Thank You" on January 15, 2013. This Evan "Kidd" Bogart, Andrew Goldstein, Emanuel Kiriakou and Lindy Robbins written song is their second single. It was first made available on June 20, 2013 and became their first Hot 100 entry, also reaching the Top Ten in Australia and New Zealand.
  • Tony described the song to MTV News as, "a song you take home to Mom." He added: "I think it's talking about natural beauty. I think a lot of people these days can kinda get infiltrated in their minds about what's appropriate and how you have to look a certain way."
  • Malcolm told Billboard magazine: "That was one of the first songs we started when we first signed. We just love the song because it's old-school and has the Michael Jackson and the Prince [references]."
  • Josh Forbes directed the video, which plays on the concept of classic beauty and classic cool. Set in a speakeasy reminiscent of the Prohibition era, the clip features a magic photo booth that transforms girl who enter into classic looks. It was shot at Hemingway's Lounge in Hollywood.
