Songfacts®:

  • "Drum" was written by MØ with Noonie Bao with whom the Dane collaborated with on "Final Song," and British singer-songwriter Charli XCX. "It was really nice, super fun," MØ told BBC Radio 1's Annie Mac. "I've been a fan of Charlie for long so I was kind of starstuck when I got into the room."
  • The song finds MØ singing about moving on from a stagnant relationship where she feels she is dancing to the beat of their drum. "Whether it's an old friend, a lover, a lifetime partner or even yourself, it's about letting go in order to pursue your dreams, for better or worse," she explained. "Sometimes we have to accept that we might not have a plan, but that we have to figure out our own s--t - take the punches and get stronger - and the same goes for those we care about."
  • Production was handled by BloodPop, whose other credits include Justin Bieber's "Sorry" and Lady Gaga's "Perfect Illusion."
