Songfacts®:

  • "Dark Days" is a collaboration between Moby and LA jazz-singer Lady Blackbird. It incorporates elements reminiscent of Moby's earlier work from the Play and 18 eras, but with a fresh, futuristic twist, layered with electronic wizardry that feels like it's been beamed in from a distant planet.
  • Lady Blackbird lends her deep, soulful vocal stylings to this track, exploring themes that range from pondering the meaning of life to considering how many future days we actually have left on this spinning rock. The song has an eerie, almost prophetic feel to it.

"Moby's originality is so freeing," Lady Blackbird said. "We felt the moonlit darkness of the track evoked a feeling of the beginning and ending of future days on Earth."
  • Moby has been wanting to work with Lady Blackbird for several years. When he sent the music for "Dark Days" to the singer and her producer, Chris Seefried, he got back her vocals and lyrics within a week. Moby admitted to The Sun that he was "almost intimidated" by how perfectly she nailed it, confessing that he "can't write or record vocals that perfectly."
  • Lady Blackbird's involvement with Moby didn't stop there. She also lent her voice to "Walk with Me," a reimagined version of Moby's 2009 track "Wait for Me." This new take was recorded for his 2023 album Resound NYC, which features orchestral reworkings of some of his classic songs, each garnished with guest artists.

Moby, clearly smitten with her talent, gushed, "I'm not alone in loving her voice. She was on a TV show with Taylor Swift and when they went to interview Taylor, she said: 'actually I just want to hear Lady Blackbird sing more.'"
