Songfacts®:

  • This sweet-tempered, country-tinged ballad was penned by Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger with Nashville songwriters Chris Tomkins (Carrie Underwood's "Before He Cheats"), Craig Wiseman (Blake Shelton's "Hillbilly Bone") and Rodney Clawson (George Strait's "I Saw God Today").
  • The song is based on an experience in Chad and Mike Kroeger's childhood when they found their babysitter crying her eyes out as her boyfriend had died in a motorcycle accident.

  • Michealawandler from Stevi, MtI love this song SO MUCH! The video is to sad. Made me cry! ;(
  • Reya from Reynoldsburg, OhI looked this up because a friend they love this song. I listened to it, and thought of someone who is extremely depressed, and has suicidal thoughts. And of their friend trying desperately to save them. I really like this song, even though I'm not a huge fan of Nickelback.
  • Hannah from Gratz, PaI get strong anti-suicide vibes from this song. "If you can't tell, I'm scared as hell 'Cause I can't get you on the telephone." It makes me think of someone rushing to get to the home of their friend, because they're worried that they might kill themselves. "You're gonna make it through another night." Again, talking about suicide....
"Stop thinking about the easy way out There's no need to go and blow the candle out, because you're not done, you're far to young and the best is yet to come." This for me, is one of the most beautiful bit of lyrics in this song. It's a beautiful metaphor and a reminder that life goes on.
I've been depressed for awhile, I've attempted suicide. Sometimes I play this song just to hear the reassurance that it gets better. It may be a long time in the future,
and even though life sucks now, there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
