  • Justin Timberlake and JC Chasez were in The Mickey Mouse Club before the group formed.
  • The name 'N Sync comes from the last letter each member's first name. The second N comes from Lance Bass' nickname, Lansten.

It was Timberlake's mother, Janet, who came up with the name. "The first time we sang together, she goes, 'Man, you guys sound really in sync,'" Timberlake said in an interview with CNN. "And we were like ding, ding, ding."

Their name is often stylized with a star (*NSYNC), which was added at the suggestion of Israeli illusionist Uri Geller, who believes in the power of symbolism. "We sat down and I wrote, on a napkin, NSYNC, and I drew a star in the cafe [in London's Covent Garden]." Geller recalled to The Huffington Post in 2015. "And I told them, if they place that star on their first CD, they're going to shoot up to #1."

Geller added that he "thought that a star would bring them that connection to see the synchronicities of the universe of success," continuing, "I think drawing and writing down their name and creating that star gave them that subliminal push to go for it."

Geller wasn't quite right. 'N Sync's first self-titled CD ended up reaching #2 on the US albums chart.
  • In 1999, they helped organize the first of their annual celebrity basketball games for the group's Challenge For Children charity. Usher often took part along with various NBA stars. Queen Latifah, Ne-Yo and Ludacris are some of the many big names in music who have participated.
  • Their album No Strings Attached set a record for first-week sales in America with 2.4 million in 2000. Their next album, Celebrity, claimed the #2 spot with 1.88 million the following year. In 2015, Adele smashed the record by selling 3.3 million copies of 25 the first week.
  • Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears were a couple for over two years. It's rumored that Britney broke it off with Justin because he couldn't keep his hands off of his backup dancer, Jenna.
  • 'N Sync's first time touring in the US was as an opener for Janet Jackson on her Velvet Rope Tour in 1998.
  • Joey Fatone had a small supporting role in the 2002 movie My Big Greek Wedding.
  • Chris Kirkpatrick had his own clothing line called FuMan Skeeto.
  • Mattel created three 'N Sync Barbies. No, they weren't boy Barbies - these were girl dolls that were huge 'N Sync fans, wearing their T-shirts and accessorizing with other merch from the group.
  • After 'N Sync announced a "temporary hiatus" in spring 2002, the band didn't record any more new material, but it wasn't until 2007 that Lance Bass confirmed the group had "definitely broken up."

Looking back at the end of 'N Sync with The Hollywood Reporter, Justin Timberlake recalled: "We were on a stadium tour, and I just felt like the whole thing was too big. It started as a fun snowball fight that was becoming an avalanche. And, also, I was growing out of it."

"I felt like I cared more about the music than some of the other people in the group," he added. "I felt like I had other music I wanted to make and that I needed to follow my heart."
  • 'N Sync surprised fans by showing up as presenters at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2023. Two weeks later, they released the single "Better Place" from the movie Trolls Band Together, their first new music since 2002.

On March 13, 2024, they performed at Justin Timberlake's concert in Los Angeles, their first time singing together since the 2013 VMAs, where Timberlake was given the Video Vanguard Award.
  • 'N Sync's first record deal was with a German label, and that's where they went in 1997 to get their start. Their "tour managers" at the time were their mothers. Lance Bass and Justin Timberlake were underage, so their moms traveled on the road with them full-time, getting the group to venues, washing their clothes, and handling logistics as they bounced between hotels.

  • Mike from GermantownI agree with Will. I've always hated 'N Sync. They're so annoying!
  • Don from Pittsburgh, PaJustin Timberlake was in the mickey mouse club? Well, that explains it. No-musical ability,no-talent, just a complete cookie-cutter performer. I feel sorry for the young people of the world who look up to this wanna-be. I can't say enough bad things about Timberlake as a musician. I hope in a couple of years he'll be absolutely gone.
  • Chuckie from Happy Town, Alwow... no one wore fumanskeeto...
