Songfacts®:

  • As the title implies, this is a song about jerks.

I don't ever wanna see you
And I never wanna miss you again

Coming across a jerk is a disagreeable experience and you walk away hoping they'll never cross our paths again.
  • When you're angry, you're a jerk
And then you treat me like I'm worth nothin'

Tree sees hating jerks as hypocritical, as we've all behaved like one in the past. "We've all met a jerk or two," he said to Apple Music. "We all know people that we hope we'll never see again, but it's important to understand that we've all probably been jerks at some point in our lives, as well. It's a double-sided blade, but it's a song about those people that you really hope you never see again."
  • Tree released the song on his debut major-label studio album, Ugly Is Beautiful. He wrote the track at Marshmello's house with the marshmallow-helmeted producer and the singer's engineer David Pramik.
  • German DJ and producer Southstar released a remix of the song under the title "Miss You" on July 30, 2022. He later sold his production to fellow German DJ Robin Schulz, who released an almost identical remix on August 5, 2022.
  • In late September 2022, "Miss You" went viral on Tik Tok, leading to both Southstar and Schulz's versions charting throughout Europe. Southstar's version peaked at #23 in the UK and reached the Top 10 in Austria, Germany, and Lithuania.
