Songfacts®:

  • This 5-minute pop and electronic hybrid finds lead singer Ryan Tedder craving the idea of an artificial, automatic kind of love.

Yeah I just want my love automatic
    If artificial love makes sense
I just want your love, I'm an addict
    Artificial intelligence
  • Halfway through Tedder is joined by Peter Gabriel who croons the second verse in which he longs for an emotionless love. The former Genesis frontman also sings the outro.
  • Peter Gabriel is not known for his collaborations. Radio.com asked Tedder how he managed to bag Gabriel for a feature. He replied:

"I asked! No one asks him! Or they try to, he's not an easy guy to reach. So, there's that: just getting a hold of him was the hard part. After that, it was like, 'Let's have dinner and hang out and see if we vibe; I worship your body of work, and hopefully you like this song and let's do something.' And he went along with it."
