Songfacts®:

  • This ballad finds Pink getting personal as she delves into her self-loathing. The troubled singer wonders why she just can't feel happy.
  • During the first verse Pink recalls how her motherhood dreams fell apart when she suffered a miscarriage at the age of 17.

    Since I was 17
    I've always hated my body
And it feels like my body's hated me

Pink explained the meaning behind the lyric during an interview with USA Today: "I was going to have that child. But when that happens to a woman or a young girl, you feel like your body hates you and like your body is broken, and it's not doing what it's supposed to do."
  • During the second verse Pink talks about her marriage to motocross rider Carey Hart. She admits her lack of self-love is a barrier in their relationship.

    Since I was 22
I've been with somebody who loves me
And I've been tryna believe it's true, mmm
But my head always messes up my heart
    No matter what I do

Pink first met Corey Hart when she was 22 years old. They married five years later but separated in 2008 as a result of Hart's rumored infidelity. Pink and Hart eventually got back together, and had a daughter named Willow in 2011.
