Songfacts®:

  • The lead single from Psy 9th, "That That" is a collaboration between Psy and BTS' Suga. It finds the pair celebrating a return to normal life and picking up their music careers after the pandemic. The song title comes from Psy's repeated exclamation of: "That, that, I like that."
  • Psy and Suga's original plan had been for the BTS rapper to produce Psy's music. After the "Gangnam Style" singer wrote his part, Suga came up with some rhymes and they started going back and forth like table tennis. "We both were really into the track, and we finished that in literally three or four days," Psy told Billboard.
  • Psy and Suga are the sole writers and producers of the energetic track.
  • Psy and Suga shot the music video on a sandy beach in the South Korean city of Incheon in mid-March 2022. Set in a Wild West-style town in the middle of a desert, it sees the two K-pop stars dancing to the track while attired in cowboy outfits. In a promotional video, Psy explained how Suga's involvement deepened the more the pair worked on the track. "At the beginning, we met because he wanted to produce my music. Then he ended up featuring on the track," he said.

"Then he ended up learning the intense choreography. Then he ended up starring in the music video," Psy added. "Step by step, he got involved more and more deeply."
  • Though "That That" differs from Psy's usual style, the "Gangnam Style" star brought his unique vibe into the song anyway. "I wrote the verses and the hook that goes, "that, that I like that," which feels typical of my style, and then I put in a rap part for the people who are going to listen to the song since it's been two years since I released D-2. Because I wanted to give them something that sounded similar to my mixtapes," Suga explained to Weverse magazine. "But the melody that PSY wrote was just a straight-up PSY song. (laughs) We divided up the labor and wrote separately, but I learned a lot from him."
  • Suga performed "That That" live with PSY for the first tome during the "Gangnam Style" singer's Summer Swag concert on July 16, 2022 at the Jamsil Olympic Stadium in Seoul.
