Songfacts®:

  • Ray BLK's first single since signing for Island Records, "Run Run" addresses knife and gun crime. "I wrote the song as a reminder to everyone listening, not to become a product of their environment," she said. "They have the choice to better themselves and rise above their struggles."
  • The lyrics are based on things that the singer has personally experienced such as seeing a gun for the first time, aged 14, at a party. Ray BLK recalled to The Guardian:

"Two boys started arguing about the music being too loud, and it escalated, and one of them pulled out a gun – I remember being so petrified, everyone running and not really understanding what was happening. Me and my friends only ever spoke about it once after that, which is strange. But I think we were shell-shocked and didn’t want to contemplate what might have happened. Over time we became desensitized to being around that kind of violence."
  • The visual was directed by Tom Green, who is known for working on the E4 series Misfits. This was his debut as a music video director.
