• Michael from CincinnatiWritten in 1969, this song about abuse, stalking, and possibly even psychopathic behavior was massively ahead of it's time.
  It is not about love, it is about possession and control.
  The singer is Superman and "I know everything" describes is a massive power imbalance between the singer and his target.
  Assuming this person isn't actually Superman, they are delusional about their abilities in there way a psychopath is.
  "If you go a million miles" (two round trips to the moon) "I'll track you down." You don't "track down" someone you live. You track down prey or targets of manhunts.
  "You don't really love that guy..." The target is someone who has moved on yet "Superman" is unwilling to let her go. This also is a form of abuse in that he is telling the victim what she thinks.
  
  This is a lovely, infections tune with some of the darkest lyrics ever written.
• Curtis from Paola, KsI remember being at a local wrestling show a few years back and there was a superhero wrestler who called himself “The Hood” and he walked out to this song. That was the first time I had ever heard it.

• Disappointed In The "facts" from Afartop comment of the song being "slightly stalkerish" massively misunderstands the narrative -- there's no creepiness here, no threat to be had. this song is about unrequited love; he's pining for the object of his affection and desperately wants to prove his worth. he loves from afar.
• Kevin from Reading , PaBassist Mills is an infrequent lead vocalist. In addition to this song, the only studio songs on which he has sung lead are "Texarkana" and "Near Wild Heaven," both on the "Out of Time" album, both top-notch tracks on that album. Does anybody know why he doesn't sing lead a little more often? (Other than the obvious reason, Michael Stipe wouldn't have much to do if he did)
