Songfacts®:

  • Ride is an UK rock group formed in Oxford by co-vocalists and guitarists Andy Bell and Mark Gardener. Bell and Gardener both went to Cheney School in Oxford and after moving to Banbury to do Foundation Studies in Art & Design at North Oxfordshire College and the Oxfordshire School of Art & Design they met drummer Loz Colbert and bassist Steve Queralt.
  • This is the opening track of Ride's debut release, Ride EP. Andy Bell told Q Magazine the theme of the band is escape. "The first line of our first song, 'Chelsea Girl,' goes, 'Take me for a ride' - basically, get me out of Oxford. We wanted to escape the small town and see what was going on in the world."
  • Ride disbanded in 1996 after clocking up six UK Top 40 singles. Andy Bell went on to form Hurricane #1 and later joined Oasis and Beady Eye. The band reformed in 2015 after Beady Eye broke up.
