Robert Plant

Robert Plant Artistfacts

  • August 20, 1948
  • Robert Plant had a very brief solo career before forming Led Zeppelin. When he was 18, he released two singles on CBS Records: "Our Song" and "Long Time Coming."
  • He scuttled plans for a Led Zeppelin reunion tour that was widely anticipated following a concert the band played on December 10, 2007 at the O2 Arena in London. Months before the concert, Plant released the album Raising Sand with Alison Krauss. A Zeppelin tour would have netted him unprecedented profits, but that didn't interest him - he instead toured with Krauss to support the album.
  • He toured as a solo artist for the first time in 1983, following the release of this second album, Principle of Moments. He didn't play any Zeppelin songs on this trek; it wasn't until 1990 that he added some Zep classics to his setlists.
  • On the down-low, he moved to Austin, Texas in 2013 with his girlfriend, the musician Patty Griffin. Plant found himself frequently flying back to Wales, and in 2014 he moved back there permanently and split with Griffin. He told the Independent that he and Griffin "eloped" but did not confirm their nuptials.
  • Many artists play music into their dotage, but Plant also kept creating it, doing so with a number of projects. In addition to his solo work, he had a very successful partnership with Alison Krauss, teamed up with Jimmy Page as "Page and Plant" and also joined him in The Honeydrippers, and made music with Patty Griffin in The Sensational Space Shifters and Crown Vic.
  • He has never had any interest in writing an autobiography or memoir, as he cherishes his memories but has no interest in sharing them.
  • Plant's first record was Johnny Bennett's "Screaming," gifted by his parents when he was 12. He revealed that while his mother initially enjoyed the music, his growing obsession with New Orleans R&B led them to cut the plug off his record player to stop him from playing it repeatedly.
  • Robert Plant has had the same Wolverhampton Wanderers FC season ticket since he was 8 years old. He told Jools Holland he's sat in "one seat" since 1956, calling it "a hell of a movie."
