  • Here, Role Model (Tucker Pillsbury) introduces us to Sally, a "born-again wild card." The story unfolds in a dive bar, where amid the blur of cheap wine and shared glances, a connection sparks. Role Model knows better than to trust a feeling served with a twist of lime and regret. He pleads not to be forgotten once the haze lifts and Sally inevitably returns to whatever free-spirited dimension she wandered in from.
  • Role Model wrote the song with Annika Bennett, Noah Conrad, and Harrison Whitford.

Annika Bennett is a Los Angeles-based singer, songwriter and producer whose work spans pop, country, and indie genres. She has written for and with artists such as Lauv ("Love U Like That") and Chappell Roan ("Super Graphic Ultra Modern Girl"). Bennett has a history of working with Role Model, co-writing songs like "Look At That Woman" and "Slipfast" before contributing to "Sally, When The Wine Runs Out."

Los Angeles-based producer and songwriter Noah Conrad first gained major recognition as the co-writer and producer of Ashe's hit "Moral Of The Story." His other credits include Sabrina Carpenter's "Skinny Dipping" and Chappell Roan's "Red Wine Supernova." In 2024, Conrad served as executive producer for Role Model's sophomore album, Kansas Anymore, producing and co-writing several tracks, including "Deeply Still In Love" and "Look At That Woman."

Harrison Whitford is a songwriter, guitarist and producer best known for his long-standing collaboration with Phoebe Bridgers as both a band member and co-writer. On Kansas Anymore, he is credited as a composer, lyricist and background vocalist on multiple tracks, including "Old Recliners" and "Some Protector."
  • "Sally" details Role Model's re-entry into the dating pool. "Lyrically, it was me being hesitant and doubtful," he told Billboard "not being sold on someone."
  • After teasing the bridge of "Sally"' on TikTok shortly after the 2025 Super Bowl, Role Model announced the song would be included on the deluxe version of Kansas Anymore. "Sally" quickly went viral, notably gaining traction on TikTok.
  • While much of Kansas Anymore was born during a concentrated writing stretch with his collaborators, "Sally" arrived later, a product of fresh experiences and the realization that writing a song people can actually dance to is, as Role Model puts it, "probably the hardest thing" he can do. Still, he gave himself the challenge and, after much tinkering, he stuck the landing.
  • The song became Role Model's first #1 on a Billboard chart when it topped the September 13, 2025-dated Adult Alternative Airplay tally.
  • Role Model made his Saturday Night Live debut as a musical guest on the October 11, 2025, episode of the comedy sketch show. His performance of "Sally, When The Wine Runs Out" featured a surprise cameo by Charli XCX. This tradition of inviting a special celebrity guest to embody "Sally" during live performances is a signature of Role Model's shows.
