Songfacts®:

  • Santigold told the Sun newspaper May 16, 2008 how this song helped her get through a difficult time: "The worst thing is one of my best friends was killed in a car accident last month right in the middle of my record release. I'd been all over the place, trying to keep it together. Then one day I had an in-store performance in New York when I started crying. Then I went straight into performing 'Creator' and it was amazing. It was so powerful. Music is such a declaration. That song was telling me I could get through it."
  • This was originally released as a limited edition 12" vinyl in late 2007 and in January 2008 it was given a full release. It was Santigold's debut single.
  • This was featured in a TV commercial advertising Bud Light's lime flavored beer.
  • This was produced by Switch and Freq Nasty. Santigold told The Independent newspaper January 9, 2009, that she hadn't met the two producers before she recorded this song, which was difficult for her as she gets "nervous when I make music with people I don't know." Santigold added: "I just met them at a club and went to the studio. When they played me the beat I was like, 'this beat is so good', and all of a sudden they were like, 'get in the booth'. I was like: 'uh... no'. When I went in I just stood there humming, trying to get it in my head because I didn't feel comfortable doing it out loud. I didn't want to go back and they were calling me and I just kept saying no."
