Songfacts®:

  • The Christian rockers wrote this worship song during a particularly hectic time touring in the UK. Just as they were getting ready for their next gig, the band learned all of their equipment had been stolen. Korey Cooper, Skillet's keyboardist, chose faith over worry, which inspired the song. "It was weird because leading up to that happening, it was like everywhere we went and everybody we talked to, they were all talking about trusting in God and having faith, and that he's your father and he's good and you can trust him in all things," she explained while promoting the album. "And we know that when you trust God, when you just go to Him, there's rest there. And He's so powerful that he can replace your instruments, He can cause good to come out of a bad situation."

John Cooper, Korey's husband and Skillet's frontman, recalls finding her at the piano in the midst of all the chaos: "Korey was just worshipping God and playing and singing. She just started singing, "I rest in the shelter of your love' and I was like, 'Wow, I really like that.' ... It's just a worship song saying He's in control and let Him take care of things."
