Songfacts®:

  • Everything Was Beautiful, the ninth studio album by Spiritualized, kicks off with this gospel-infused track. It starts with Spiritualized mainman Jason Pierce's daughter, Poppy, (described in the credits as P. Spaceman) announcing the title of the record. It's followed by the transmission signal from Apollo 11 - the same effects that introduced their 1997 psychedelic-gospel masterwork, Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space.

"The Apollo 11 moment helped give it the perspective of someone looking down at Earth," Pierce explained to The Sun. "Suddenly the whole album became like an observation, as if it's in orbit and has a Man Who Fell To Earth or 'ground control to Major Tom' feel."
  • Poppy's contributions to her father's records go back a long way. When she was 11, she co-wrote and contributed vocals towards "So Long You Pretty Thing," a track from Spiritualized's 2012 album Sweet Heart Sweet Light.
  • Throughout "Always Together With You," Pierce promises to morph himself into whatever his romantic interest wants, so she'll love him. Many of the examples he gives are space-themed.

If you want a rocket ship
I would be a rocket ship for you
    If you walk the galaxies
I would walk the galaxies for you

Despite the yearning nature of the lyrics, Pierce considers this a joyous track. "That song is infused with a kind of beauty," he told The Sun. "It's got hope."
  • The seeds for "Always Together With You" lie in a hastily recorded demo Pierce recorded in 2014. Titled "Always Forgetting With You (The Bridge Song)," it appears on a Record Store Day compilation called Space Project that features songs incorporating recordings captured by NASA. "I always thought there was a better song in there," Pierce told Uncut magazine. "It's hard to make something that sounds like a Phil Spector pop song and also contains a degree of something psychedelic."
