All We Really Wanna Do (Polly)

Songfacts®:

  • Written by lead singer Francis Rossi and Bernard Frost, a friend of the band who wrote some songs with Rossi. It's a very profound song about the changing world and what life would be like in the new millennium. Not that audiences heard it that way. "I thought people were going to love the song and notice that I was saying something about the state of the world," Rossi said in our 2014 interview. "They didn't."
  • The chorus is based on the nursery rhyme "Polly Wolly Doodle." Francis Rossi wrote "All we really want to do is polly wolly doodle all the day" as a placeholder to fit the melody, and filled in the line with "All we really wanna do is what we wanna do and do it all the day" for the real lyric.
