Songfacts®:

  • This features Jonathan Donahue of Mercury Rev on guest vocals and playing the bowed saw. The Avalanches' Robbie Chater told Uncut:

"Jonathan was a dream to work with, it was such an incredible experience for Tony and I. We had cut our teeth on the first Mercury Rev album (Yerself is Steam), which profoundly influenced our aesthetic, all that tremolo, those fluttering flutes and all that distorted top end blasting into the atmosphere like a solar flare.

On Since I Left You, the whole top end of the song 'Electricity' was us channelling the spirit and energy of Yerself is Steam. So working with Jonathan was like coming home."
  • The song also features vocals by Australian electronic producer Jonti, Chater told ABC: "Amazing young musician; came down to Melbourne sang these beautiful Beach Boys-style backing harmonies for us and really helped us bring the song home."
  • The intro samples Sesame Street's "Madrigal Alphabet" while later on there is a spoken word sample of "Alphabetical Slaughter" by DJ Kay Slay.
